On the night of February 23, the 87th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles.

The main prize as "Best Film of the Year" went to the film "Birdman" by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarito. The director himself was also awarded a gold statuette for Best Director. All in all, Birdman, which tells about the tragic fate of a Hollywood actor, was nominated in 9 nominations and added two more Oscars to the main award - for Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay.
The most prestigious category also featured The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, Obsession, Boyhood, American Sniper and Stephen Hawking Universe. Most of them, one way or another, were awarded statuettes in various nominations.
Eddie Redmayne, who played the lead role in the Stephen Hawking film, became the best actor of the year. The Best Actress Award went to Juliana Moore for her work in Still Alice. Best Supporting Actors recognized Patricia Arquette for "Boyhood" and Jay Kay Simmons for her role in the film "Obsession".
This year, the film by Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan” was also nominated in the category “Best Foreign Language Film”. However, the coveted prize went to the Polish film Ida, directed by Pavel Pawlikowski.
