Homemade face toner: folk recipes for toning the skin
Homemade face toner: folk recipes for toning the skin

Between the stages of daily cleansing and moisturizing the skin, there is one more obligatory stage - toning. And it is better not to skip it, because tonic lotions when applied to the skin have a double effect: they remove the remnants of makeup, impurities and cleansers from the skin, and, of course, tone the skin. Moreover, seemingly ordinary water can even eliminate some cosmetic problems. But for this you need to choose a tonic suitable for a particular skin type. By the way, it is not at all necessary to choose a tonic by carefully studying the contents of store shelves. Such a cosmetic product can be prepared on your own. How? The women's magazine JustLady will answer this question. Location: Location:

Before you start making a face tonic at home, you need to learn a few rules.

1. Natural cosmetics are good for everyone, and its only drawback is too short shelf life. Homemade facial toner is no exception. When prepared without the use of alcohol, it can only be stored for a couple of days, while the alcohol it contains extends its shelf life to just a few weeks. There can be no talk of any months and years to which you get used to using purchased cosmetics.

2. Homemade face toner, which is planned to be used for dry skin, is fundamentally different from the one that is suitable for oily or combination skin. And not so much the ingredients included in its composition, as the presence or absence of alcohol. If alcohol performs a drying and disinfecting function in a tonic for oily skin, then dry skin does not need to be dried, and its disinfection can be achieved with the help of other ingredients. Therefore, it is highly undesirable to use a toner with alcohol to tone dry skin.

We are used to the fact that some cosmetic ingredients are present only in products for dry skin, others in products for oily skin. But there are also universal ingredients that differ not only in efficiency, but also in properties that are necessary for any type of skin. One of these ingredients is cucumber.

Homemade face tonic with cucumber

Some of us still remember the glass bottle with the inscription "Cucumber water", which occupied a worthy place among the main cosmetics of Soviet women. And it was not in vain that I took it, because cucumber is an excellent tool for cleansing, whitening and moisturizing the skin.

Unlike some exotic flowers from New Zealand or thermal plankton, cucumber is an affordable product. So why not make a homemade facial toner using it?

Cucumber toner for dry to normal skin. Cut one medium cucumber together with the peel into small cubes to make 3 tablespoons of these cubes. Pour the indicated number of cucumber cubes with one glass of boiled milk and cook for 5 minutes. Strain the cooled mass and use it as a moisturizing and brightening product.

Cucumber toner for oily and combination skin. Grind the cucumber until you get a gruel. Mix 4 tablespoons of this gruel with 1 tablespoon of chopped lemon peel and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Pour the resulting mixture with 1 glass of vodka and insist in a tightly sealed container for 15 days. Then strain, add cool boiled water in a small amount, 1 egg white and 1 teaspoon of honey.

But not all of the ingredients a homemade face toner can contain are versatile and suitable for all skin types. Therefore, JustLady offers customized recipes to prepare a homemade facial toner depending on your skin type.

Homemade facial toner: normal to dry skin

As we have already said, dry skin does not need to be dried, and the main purpose for which the owners of such skin use a toner is cleansing, moisturizing and toning. The recipes we have proposed are precisely aimed at achieving this goal.

Oatmeal tonic. Pour two tablespoons of oatmeal with two glasses of hot milk, cover and chill.

Pink tonic. Pour almond or peach oil over 3 cups of red rose petals so that all petals are completely covered. Then heat the resulting mixture in a water bath until the petals become discolored, strain and cool.

Birch tonic. Bring half a glass of birch sap to a boil, mix with one teaspoon of honey, stir and cool. This homemade facial toner is great for cleansing dry, aging skin.

Linden honey tonic. Pour 1 tablespoon of linden blossom with 1 cup of boiling water and insist covered for an hour. Strain and add one teaspoon of honey.

Homemade facial toner: combination to oily skin

Even if your homemade facial toner is designed for oily and combination skin at the same time, remember that these skin types are different. If oily skin is characterized by increased production of sebum in almost all areas, the term "combination skin" means the proximity of oily skin areas with normal or even dry ones.

That is why drying alcohol-based tonics should be used very carefully by owners of combination skin, applying them only to those areas that are characterized by increased fat formation (usually the so-called T-zone: forehead, nose, chin).

Grapefruit tonic. Pour fresh grapefruit peel, placed in a non-metallic bowl, with half a glass of chilled boiled water. Finely chop the peel already immersed in water and leave to infuse for 2 days, then strain the liquid.

Lemon and carrot tonic. Stir 2 tablespoons of carrot juice with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of mineral water. Wash yourself with warm water 10 minutes after using this tonic.

Green tea tonic. Pour 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with 1 cup of cold green tea. This homemade face toner does a great job on oily skin.

Herbal alcoholic tonic. In a resealable container, mix 1 tablespoon of fresh or dried mother-and-stepmother flowers with 1 tablespoon of dry crushed sage leaves and 1 teaspoon of St. John's wort. Pour the herbal mixture into ½ cup of vodka and close the container for a week to infuse. After the mixture is infused, strain it, and immediately before use, dilute the required amount of the mixture with the same amount of boiled water.

Homemade facial toner should be used 2 times a day after cleansing the skin. It is such a joy to know that you are doing a cosmetic procedure that is good for the skin, and even with the help of your own prepared products.
