To keep lips always attractive and have a fresh look and healthy color, they must be looked after. Without good care, the skin of the lips coarsens, cracks, flakes and periodically inflames. This is both ugly and uncomfortable and dangerous. If for some reason the use of purchased lip care products is impossible, you can easily make a balm at home, which in its properties is not much inferior to those products that the beauty industry offers in abundance. It is not difficult to prepare a lip balm without leaving your home, but it is important to understand the need for the presence of certain ingredients in it.
The base balm usually contains beeswax, vegetable and essential oils, honey, cocoa butter, vitamins A and E. At the same time, beeswax has bactericidal and anti-inflammatory functions, preventing fungal diseases and protecting the delicate skin of the lips from viral infections. In addition, wax is needed in homemade balm as a natural thickener, it is thanks to the wax that the product has a solid consistency.
There is no need to say much about the importance of honey in lip balm - by default it is good for the skin, especially for the skin of the lips - so thin and delicate. Honey smoothes and softens lips well, has regenerating and bactericidal properties. In the same way, it is unnecessary to remind about the beneficial properties of vegetable oils and vitamins, these components of homemade balm bring nourishment to the skin of the lips, promote the healing of wounds and small cracks, including the so-called seizures in the corners of the lips.
Cocoa butter effectively protects the skin of the lips from the common phenomenon of chapping. Essential oils are added to the balm not only as a pleasant fragrance, but also as ingredients that carry additional nutrition.
The recipe for the base lip balm is as follows:
- melt the beeswax in a water bath (1-2 tablespoons);
- add 1 tbsp to the melted wax. a spoonful of vegetable oil (preferably almond or palm oil, but olive oil is also suitable);
- then add 1 teaspoon of honey to the mixture and mix everything;
- 1-2 capsules of vitamin A and 1-2 capsules of vitamin E or 4 capsules of Aevit (sold at the pharmacy);
- in the end, add 1 drop of cocoa butter and 1-2 drops of essential oil, the aroma of which you like the most, into the almost ready-made balm (usually add orange, lemon, tangerine, rosemary or cinnamon oil). Stir the mixture thoroughly. The balm is ready to use. Apply it in an even thin layer on clean and dry lips.
The base balm is stored in a glass container (for example, in a small jar of cream that you have already used) in the refrigerator. If you want, you can add other ingredients to it - cranberry, sea buckthorn, aloe or apricot juice, glycerin, cream, other oils (for example, castor, jojoba, cedar), etc. To do this, separate a small part from the base balm and, adding what you decide, mix. Unlike purchased products, homemade lip balm does not last long, so it is advisable to prepare it in small quantities.
