It is known that even in ancient Egypt, people bleached their teeth using a mixture of crushed pumice and wine vinegar. Fortunately, science has stepped far forward and now not only pumice, but also chalk and soda have long been forgotten. Nevertheless, despite the abundance of whitening toothpastes, not everyone knows how to choose it correctly. Location: Location:
All toothpastes with whitening ingredients are divided into two groups. These are pastes with a high content of abrasive particles and pastes containing chemicals.
The action of pastes containing bleaching elements of chemical origin is based on the use of oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or urea. When used, they actively produce highly active free oxygen radicals and thereby oxidize those pigments that color teeth in a yellowish tint. The pigments lose their color, becoming transparent, and the teeth, accordingly, become white.
The undoubted advantage of such pastes is the quick result. But the frequent use of such a tool leads to the destruction of tooth enamel. In addition, with the wrong choice of paste, you can get white teeth and dark fillings. In addition, in some cases, an allergic reaction is possible. Therefore, before trying to whiten teeth with a toothpaste containing chemicals, talk to your dentist. Perhaps he will approve of your choice or, conversely, recommend a paste from another manufacturer.
Abrasive pastes contain dicalcium phosphate, silicon oxide, or aluminum oxide. Such compounds can make up 40% of the composition. Thanks to them, you can get rid of plaque. The degree of effectiveness of the paste depends on the size of the particles: the larger the particles contained in it, the better the bleaching will be. But the higher will be the risk of erasing the enamel from the teeth, as if with a grater. In addition, such pastes injure the gums.
In order not to put your teeth at risk of being left practically without enamel, choose pastes containing soft abrasives. They do not injure the oral cavity, do not harm the enamel and break down the protein structure of plaque on the teeth. Take a closer look at pastas containing papain - an enzyme found in papaya fruit.
Whichever paste you choose, remember that they are not as effective as in commercials. And besides, any of these pastes should not be used for sensitive enamel and diseases of caries and periodontal disease. You should also not buy toothpaste that contains peroxide with a percentage higher than 0.1%.
