Corns are areas of dense keratinized skin of the feet. Unlike dry calluses and warts, they do not have a shaft, but they cause no less discomfort when walking. To combat corns, professional cosmetics, pedicure tools, as well as time-tested “grandmother's” methods are used. Location: Location: Corns are easily removed with a pedicure machine. It is a scapula equipped with a sharp blade. The design of the machine excludes the possibility of an accidental cut of the leg, however, if you apply excessive force, you can cut off not only keratinized masses, but also the normal layers of the epidermis. The machine is used after a softening bath. It presses tightly against the skin of the feet and is led in the direction of itself or away from itself so that the blade cuts off areas of the dead epidermis.

Pumice stones and a pedicure file are less effective tools for combating corns. Pumice is used to remove keratinization from previously prepared and softened feet. The file is used only on dry skin to slowly scrape off the dead layers one by one. Before use, it is slightly moistened, and then the feet are rubbed until the skin stops rolling in lumps on the abrasive surface. After that, the file is washed, blotted with a towel and the procedure is continued.

To soften the skin of the feet, before using a pedicure machine or pumice, soap and soda baths, softening creams, onion slices, raw potatoes and other improvised means are used. Soap-soda baths are prepared from liquid soap and baking soda powder. Any fatty cream or oil-glycerin mixture can be used as emollients. Onions and potatoes are used as compresses at night. They are crushed, applied to the skin of the feet, wrapped with polyethylene on top and put on socks. In the morning, the legs are washed and the softened corns are removed with a machine or pumice stone.

There are professional products for removing keratinized skin. Due to the content of keratolytic components, they dissolve the areas of compaction on the feet. The main keratolytic agent is salicylic acid, which is readily available in the pharmacy as a 10% salicylic ointment. The ointment is generously applied to the corns, avoiding contact with areas of normal skin, and after 1-2 hours, its remnants, along with keratinized skin, are removed with a stiff brush or heel grater. It will not be possible to cope with corns in one procedure, but with regular use, the effect will be no worse than from a professional pedicure.
