There are several names for this fruit; in Russia, “pomelo” (with an emphasis on the second syllable) has been fixed. This word comes from the English pomelo, which in turn takes its roots in the Dutch word pompelmoes. In English-speaking countries, the pomelo is often called sheddock, since the seeds of this plant from southeast Asia were brought by captain Sheddock in the 17th century.
The benefits of pomelo are high in trace elements and vitamins. Fruits contain potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, rich in vitamins C, B1, B2, B5, beta-carotene. The calorie content of the fruit is low - 30 kilocalories per 100 grams. Due to the low calorie content and the large amount of trace elements necessary for the body, there are many pomelo-based diets. For example:
Breakfast: low-fat cottage cheese, ¼ pomelo, green tea;
Lunch: Boiled lean beef, vegetables cooked in a double boiler, tea or coffee.
Afternoon snack; ½ pomelo;
Dinner: boiled egg, stewed vegetables, ¼ pomelo, tea.
In European cuisine, pomelo is served raw as a dessert. In Thailand, it is eaten with salt and pepper, added in this form to salads, in China, the crust is candied. In addition to traditional sweet fruit salads, pomelo goes well with chicken, olives, onions. Here's an example of a holiday salad.
Turkey fillet salad with pomelo.
Fry the turkey thigh fillet in a pan over low heat, cool, put in a salad bowl. Add diced bell peppers, halved cherry tomatoes, top with peeled pomelo pieces, pour balsamic vinegar in half with olive oil. Pre-beat the sauce with a whisk. Salt to taste.
In addition to cooking, pomelo is also used in cosmetology, but here it is important to know when to stop. Never use pomelo as part of a mask if your skin is damaged or has recently been exposed to UV light. The mask is made as follows: pomelo juice is mixed in a one-to-one ratio with almond oil, rich in antioxidants and vitamin E. It is applied to the face for five minutes and washed off thoroughly with cool water.
