Professor of the Military Medical Academy A. A. Maksimov discovered the presence of stem cells at the beginning of the ΧΧ century. For more than a hundred years, fundamental research has been carried out to study their characteristics, properties and potential for clinical use. The unique properties of bone marrow stem cells are used in many branches of medicine. Location: Location:

Stem cells are found in blood, human organs and bone marrow. They help our body to renew itself, cope with stress and many diseases. Thanks to them, human life is extended.

In severe diseases, the number of stem cells decreases, and then the experience of specialists in cell medicine is used, who obtain stem cells from the human bone marrow, culture them, store and transplant them into the diseased organism. Cellular therapy is called regenerative therapy today because stem cells repair a damaged organ.

Cell therapy is a modern form of treatment for many diseases that were previously considered incurable. Stem cells are isolated from bone marrow and placed in cryogenic storage, where they are stored for decades at a temperature of -196 ° C. For treatment, they can be claimed at any time.

SC - stem cells - refer to undifferentiated cells that are ready for self-renewal into specialized cells of any tissue of the human body. They are subdivided: hematopoietic (HSC) and mesenchymal or stromal (MSC). Blood cells develop from HSCs, and other cells of the body grow from MSCs. In the process of division, SC produces two daughter cells: one is identical to the maternal one, the other produces differentiated offspring.

There are several types of SCs: fetal, adult SCs, and embryonic SCs. In Russia, the procedure for research in the field of cellular technologies and their use in medical institutions was developed by an expert commission. Embryonic SCs are used only in in vitro models and in laboratory animals. At present, the use of embryonic SCs in practical medicine is impossible because it is illegal.

A list of some diseases in the treatment of which bone marrow stem cells are used: hematological diseases; cardiac ischemia; cardiomyodystrophy; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; fatty degeneration of the liver; chronic hepatitis; cirrhosis of the liver; nonspecific ulcerative colitis; rheumatoid arthritis; deforming arthrosis; type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications; traumatic spinal cord injury; Parkinson's disease; cerebral palsy; enuresis; endometriosis; trophic lesion of the gums, etc.
